Calendar: Learn how to fly a drone

KENDALLVILLE, Ind. — Learn how to legally fly your drone from 6 to 8 p.m. ET Dec. 14 at the Community Learning Center, 401 E. Diamond St., Kendallville.

The program will explain the difference between a hobby pilot and a commercial pilot, including the laws different types of pilots must follow. Learn how to get the best use out of your drone using a camera.

This program is free and open to the public.

4-H Holiday Workshop

OTTAWA, Ill. — The 4-H Holiday Workshop for ages 8 to 18 will be from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 10 at the La Salle County Extension office, 689 N. 31st Road, Ottawa.

Cost is $15 for 4-H members, $20 for nonmembers. Fee includes supplies to make five crafts, gift-wrapping station, refreshments and a take-home treat.

Holiday Planters

ST. CHARLES, Ill. — The 4-H Make-and-Take: Evergreen Decorative Holiday Planters will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Kane County Extension office, 535 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

Participants ages 8 to 18 will create a winter decoration for display or to give as a gift, learn design elements for horticulture and floriculture projects, and work alongside Illinois Extension master gardeners.

Wreath Workshop

ROYAL LAKES, Ill. — The Holiday Wreath Workshop will be from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 10 at Royal Lakes Village Hall, 549 Shipman Road, Royal Lakes.

Christmas Bazaar

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — The 4-H Christmas Bazaar and Chicken Noodle Dinner will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Dec. 11 at the Madison County 4-H Fairgrounds, 512 E. Fourth St., Alexandria.

The event will feature vendors from around Madison County, a chicken and noodle meal, and a visit by Santa.

Crafting Party

DECATUR, Ill. — The Holly Jolly Crafting Party with 4-H will be from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Macon County Extension office, 3351 N. President Howard Brown Blvd., Decatur.

ServSafe Training

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The ServSafe Food Manager one-day class and examination will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Dec. 13 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, York Auto Community Building, 191 N US Hwy 231, Greencastle.

The class satisfies Indiana’s requirements to become a Certified Food Protection manager. The certification is valid for five years.

VINCENNES, Ind. — The Christmas Cookie Baking Extravaganza will be at 3:30 p.m. ET Dec. 14 at the Jamestown Square Apartments Community Room, 360 Felt King Road, Vincennes.

Hort for the Holidays

FREEPORT, Ill. — Hort for the Holidays will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Community Services Building at Highland Community College, 2998 W. Pearl City Road, Freeport.

Participants will complete two make-and-take projects: a Mason Jar Oil Candle and a Holiday Centerpiece using fresh flowers — each of these projects will make beautiful standalone items to give or keep, but they also pair well together for a holiday display for your dining table.

The Mason Jar Oil Candle is a combination of pine cones, evergreen sprigs, cinnamon sticks and essential oils — perfect for illuminating your home during the dark and cold winter months.

With the Holiday Centerpiece, participants will learn the basic elements of floral design and create a centerpiece using fresh evergreens, fresh flowers, novelties, and ribbon.

Beef Meeting

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. — The 2022-2023 Indiana Beef Cattle Association and Purdue Extension Area 11 Beef Meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. ET Dec. 15 at the Whitley County Agricultural Museum and 4-H Learning Center, 680 W. Squawbuck Road, Columbia City.

The meetings will feature great food and valuable information on a variety of beef topics. IBCA will provide an update on current policy and programs. The Purdue University Department of Animal Science will provide an educational presentation.

An IBCA area director will be elected at this meeting. Area 11 includes Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells and Whitley counties.
