Ag Week celebrated at Purdue

Students learn about ag industry

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Students at Purdue University celebrated Ag Week — a tradition of student-led events hosted by the College of Agriculture.

Ag Week was established in 2012 to celebrate agriculture and promote agricultural education.

Here’s a look at the ag-centered activities held daily April 1-5.

Milk Monday

Students enjoyed free milk and grilled cheese sandwiches distributed by Purdue’s Dairy Club. They also learned about the dairy industry and interacted with cattle — which were visiting campus from the Purdue Animal Sciences Research and Education Center.

Drones and other ag technologies were featured on Tech Tuesday.

Tech Tuesday

Agricultural technology, including drones, were on display for students on Memorial Mall. Businesses showed off their equipment and answered questions.

Fresh burgers were served on Wednesday during Ag Week.

Burger Bash Wednesday

Indiana Beef Cattle Association partnered with Ag Week to serve beef, turkey and plant-based burgers to students.

Following the burger bash, the Ag Week Task Force hosted Cultivating Conversations — a public forum to discuss ag with experts at Purdue.

Also on Wednesday, the Ag Expo was held for students to learn about opportunities within the ag industry.

Volunteers packed meals to feed the hungry on Thursday.

Hammer Down Hunger Thursday

Volunteers packed 65,016 meals through Pack Away Hunger — an organization that provides meals locally and internationally.

Indiana Pork shared giveaways with students at Purdue University during Ag Week.

Farm To Fork Friday

Farmers from around the state talked with students about what it’s like on their farms.

Organizations such as Indiana Pork answered questions and handed out giveaways for students to take home.
