Illinois crop progress for week ending May 3

There were 2.7 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending May 3, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 10% short, 70% adequate, and 17% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 17% short, 65% adequate, and 13% surplus.

Corn planted reached 38%, compared to 30% last year, and the five-year average of 36%. Corn emerged reached 24%, compared to 7% last year, and the five-year average of 9%.

Soybeans planted reached 46%, compared to 31% last year, and the five-year average of 32%. Soybeans emerged reached 26%, compared to 9% last year, and the five-year average of 7%.

Winter wheat headed reached 56%, compared to 22% last year, and the five-year average of 28%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 18% fair, 67% good, and 8% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 31% fair, 47% good, and 15% excellent.
