Indiana crop progress for week ending May 3

There were 2.8 days suitable for fieldwork in Indiana for the week ending May 3, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 14% short, 62% adequate, and 19% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 20% short, 63% adequate, and 11% surplus.

Corn planted reached 42%, compared to 24% last year, and the five-year average of 22%. Corn emerged reached 19%, compared to 5% last year, and the five-year average of 4%.

Soybeans planted reached 44%, compared to 23% last year, and the five-year average of 19%. Soybeans emerged reached 20%, compared to 2% last year, and the five-year average of 3%.

Winter wheat headed reached 14%, compared to 11% last year, and the five-year average of 10%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 3% poor, 24% fair, 58% good, and 13% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 31% fair, 57% good, and 7% excellent.
