Illinois Dairy Summit to highlight best management practices

ST. ROSE, Ill. — The Illinois Milk Producers Association and University of Illinois Extension are joining forces for the 13th annual Illinois Dairy Summit.

Derek Nolan and Phil Cardoso are teaming up with IMPA to coordinate and present this year’s event.

The 2023 Illinois Dairy Summit will be held on Feb. 1 and will return to a fully in-person format. The summit will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Rose Development Club, 8004 S. First St., St. Rose.

The theme for this year’s summit is “Is Cutting Costs Enough? Strategies to Improve Profitability” and will feature cost-cutting strategies and best practices for Illinois dairy producers.

“We are looking forward to the 2023 Dairy Summit and providing dairy farmers with information and tools they may be able to take back and implement into their farms,” said Tasha Bunting, IMPA manager. “The presentations and panel of speakers will certainly provide attendees with information to consider as they plan for the future.”

New this year, Jared Hutchins, U of I agricultural and consumer economics assistant professor, will lead discussion on the Illinois Dairy Genetics and Profitability Survey in relation to breeding practices and costs.

While IMPA is not offering a livestream of the summit, Mike Hutjens, U of I dairy specialist, will hold an online discussion on economic feed opportunities and solutions. The virtual talk can be accessed at www.illinoismilk.org/DairySummit2023.

There is no fee to attend this year’s summit, though pre-registration is required. Registration is due Jan. 25. Lunch will be provided for all attendees.
