ST. CHARLES, Ill. — The Kane County Farm Bureau Foundation hosted the 18th annual Touch-A-Tractor event April 12-14 on the front lawn of the Kane County Farm Bureau in St. Charles.

The event featured antique tractors and modern farm equipment, including a giant John Deere combine.

According to organizers, the goal of the event was to bring a little bit of farm to the city, welcoming urban and suburban neighbors to learn more about farming.

Activities for children included Kids Story Time every hour, marshmallow catapults, paper origami and garden in a glove.

Children also were able to ride pedal tractors, and guests could take a tour of the grounds in a tractor-powered train ride.

There also was continuous viewing of “Fields Apart: Rooted Together,” the Illinois Farm Bueau’s new series about farmers and agriculture across Illinois. Pollinator stations explained the important role birds, bats, bees, butterflies and beetles play in crop production.

A truck raffle was held for a 1947 Dodge half-ton pickup truck. Proceeds from the raffle benefit the college scholarships and ag literacy programs.
