Langreck: Open your heart

Over the years, people who read my weekly blog know there are two things that I dislike strongly: directions and change.

When it comes to directions, I cannot find my way out of a paper bag, and to me maps are useless because all I can see are squiggles, lines and weird shapes that mean nothing.

I even occasionally find myself yelling at Siri when she gives me directions because I do not always agree with the directions she gives me — and, yes, I know that she is just an electronic device.

For those of you who do not read my blogs all the time, it is no secret that I completely despise change in any form. For example, if a television show is scheduled for a certain day and time for months and then it changes, I get upset and am not happy that I cannot watch my show when it was supposed to be on.

Before you begin to think that I need to know that change is part of life and I just must roll with it, I already know. While I cannot stand and do not like change, it does not mean I don’t adjust to it.

Right now, I am in the midst of some of the biggest changes of my life as I move to another town, packing and unpacking, all while trying to get ready for Christmas and everything that comes with it, including wrapping presents, decorating and preparing a menu for Christmas dinner.

While all the changes have been confusing to me, I am also excited for what the future brings, changes and all, including hosting my first Christmas dinner that my family will be attending.

While I am not a good cook, I am excited for them to come and celebrate the reason for the season on Christmas Day with me and my fiancé and our kids.

I can’t believe I am saying it, but if you’re like me and usually not OK with change, I encourage you to open your heart to change and see what good can come from it.
