Like most southern Illinois farms of my youth, my family had a closet filled with guns.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has selected 28 organizations to host members of USDA’s Working Lands Climate Corps, an effort that will train the next generation of conservation and climate leaders.

In 2023, Indiana poultry farmers and businesses donated 200,000 pounds of duck, turkey and chicken and 172,000 dozen eggs to Hoosiers in need. Indiana farmers and businesses also donated $340,000 to organizations fighting food insecurity this year.

Our sweet corn season is in full swing. We are selling in Galveston six days a week in addition to the Logansport farmers market. We also sell at the Logansport and Kokomo farmers markets.

The first step for starting a heritage poultry flock is to decide the purpose for the birds. “Do you want meat, eggs or birds that can do a little bit of both?” asked Jeannette Beranger, senior program manager at The Livestock Conservancy.

A love of teaching, children, nature, animals and Christmas, along with a fitting name, led a couple along a path toward raising reindeer on their Fulton County farm.
