A push to ban sugary drinks, candy and more from the U.S. program that helps low-income families pay for nutritious food has been tried before — but it may soon get a boost from new Trump administration officials.

The Indiana State Fairgrounds and Event Center is hosting the 2025 World Food Championships again. The event will be held Oct. 16-19 at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion, where it was held last year.

Global hunger numbers rose to around 828 million people in 2021, according to the latest edition of The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World from the United Nations. That’s 46 million more people from a year earlier and 150 million more from 2019.
