ISA’S AMP program launches new resources to guide on-farm decision-making

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Illinois Soybean Association’s agribusiness program, funded by the checkoff program, is launching new resources in the coming months, including learning modules and farm family videos, to help guide on-farm decision-making.

The Agribusiness Management Program is a program of ISA in conjunction with Illinois Farm Business Farm Management and University of Illinois farmdoc, that serves as a resource for busy farm families and agribusiness professionals.

AMP is designed to provide farm families with go-to advice and guidance on many farm business topics from succession and transition planning, to marketing, to current tax laws, to family dynamics and more.

AMP will launch a series of educational video and resources covering topics such as farm financial records, entity structure, risk management and mitigation, estate and transition planning, benchmarking, and farm financial ratio review. For more information on topics, visit tinyurl.com/yckk9pdy.

To complement the educational videos, ISA has featured the families of Illinois farmers and their experiences through a video series intended to capture the perspectives of all generations in the family farm business.

After graduating from Iowa State University, instead of taking on an opportunity to work for a major tractor company, Illinois native Chandler Bane chose to return home to farm.

But there’s so much more to farming than just planting and harvesting, and Chandler’s parents, Sam and Pam, wanted to be sure he knew what he was getting into.

“Farming is a business with a lot of costs associated with it and a lot of risks that are thrown into the pool, as well, in addition to a lot of management decisions” Bane said.

“Having trusted advisers in your team is absolutely essential for success in our opinion. Having someone else on your side that sees other operations and sees other people maybe making better or worse decisions is the best advocate for yourself that you can have.”

Through AMP, ISA hopes farmers find peace of mind in their decision-making, endurance in running their operations, excellence in the caliber of available resources and most importantly, legacy and the ability to see their farming operations through to the next generation.
