National Ag Day celebrated March 21

INDIANAPOLIS — National Ag Day was celebrated March 21 in honor of the many contributions the industry makes to America’s security and prosperity.

“On this day we celebrate American agriculture and our farm and ranch families who take great pride in growing a safe, sustainable food supply,” said Isabella Chism, second vice president of Indiana Farm Bureau, in a blog post.

“We also recognize and celebrate their role in producing biofuels for transportation, fiber for clothing and other textiles, building materials and so much more.”

Food and agriculture industries and their suppliers contribute over $8.6 trillion to the U.S. economy, according to the Feeding the Economy report.

“Feeding the Economy” in concert with National Ag Day celebrates the collective impact that everyone working to grow, process and produce our food has on the economy,” said Ted McKinney, CEO of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture.

“A thriving U.S. agricultural industry feeds our U.S. economy and nourishes the world through international trade. We’re proud that today’s report proves our industry’s continued strength across the states and around the globe.”
