Tackle weeds with a strong pre-emergent herbicide

ATLANTA, Ind. — The first step to a successful post-emerge herbicide application is choosing a smart pre-emergence application, according to agronomists at Beck’s Hybrids.

According to the University of Nebraska, every growth stage of delayed weed control in soybeans results in an average yield loss of 2.5%.

“When selecting a pre-emerge herbicide, choose a product with two or three effective sites of action,” said Nicole Glenn, field agronomist at Beck’s.

“Utilizing various sites of action, Beck’s Practical Farm Research data shows a 29% increase in waterhemp control when using two SOAs and a 37% increase in control when using three SOAs, versus using one SOA.

“Select SOAs or actives targeting your problematic weeds. Each herbicide group has strengths and weaknesses when it comes to weed control. Therefore, select herbicide groups that are effective for the weeds you face.”
